An inhabited system

Serev is the home system shared by the two empires’ principal worlds, within the outer galactic region known as the Rim. Caelune and Damar orbit the same star. Farther out, the gas giant Ossar carries the inhabited moon Nereth. The diagram is relational and schematic: the spaces between its marks are not distances, transit durations or orbital calculations.

Sharing a system does not make its worlds neighbouring towns. Journeys depend on orbital position, vessel capability and available passage. Local communications are bounded by physical travel of the signal; news sent between star systems relies on travelling ships.

Political geography

Caelune is the Orinthian homeworld, while Damar is the homeworld of a distinct Sarthene state. Nereth has its own crown and courts. Their ports admit foreign vessels under agreements that specify inspection, docking, rescue obligations and dispute procedures. Possessing a shipyard does not confer ownership of every ship passing nearby.

Orinthian and Sarthene holdings extend beyond the worlds shown here. The diagram does not show the full reach of either empire.

The route to Tarsenne

Tarsenne is a rim world in a separate, distant frontier system around Aunel. Both this system and Serev lie within the galactic Rim. Its marker sits outside the Serev diagram, linked only by a schematic route. A princess can travel there on a scheduled ship without being able to summon another vessel at will.

“The rim” is the everyday shortening of “the outer rim”: the outer galactic region in which this setting operates. Worlds there are called rim worlds. It contains many star systems, including mature imperial centres and isolated frontier settlements. The outer orbits of one solar system are a smaller, separate geographical scale. An empire’s core and inner provinces can both lie within the galactic Rim; those terms describe their position within the empire, not proximity to the centre of the galaxy.

The three-system reference register

Serev, Aunel and Vannor occupy the outer rim of the galaxy. The route atlas shows service relationships among their inhabited places. It supplies neither an ephemeris nor a common distance scale. Serev’s neighbouring sovereignties are neighbours within a stellar system; Pelaset and Tarsenne require interstellar passage.

Ossar’s inhabited moon Nereth belongs to a different physical environment from Caelune and Damar. The moon’s kingdom depends on specialised servicing and supplies, but dependence creates bargaining power as well as vulnerability. Crews can argue about tariffs after their vessel has somewhere safe to dock.

Ossar and the service approaches

Ossar circles Serev at approximately 5.8 AU in about 13.8 standard years. Its mass is approximately 0.67 standard Jovian masses. These orbital values help distinguish the giant’s year from Nereth’s much shorter revolution around it.

The working approach is a sequence of permissions, inspections and reserved capacity. A cleared arrival still needs a berth, compatible handling and somewhere to transfer people before a damaged compartment is opened. Nereth’s government can publish a generous transit policy while a full service enclosure makes the next arrival wait.
